Former Manchester United striker Forlan set to make professional tennis debut at 45
Former Uruguayan and Manchester United striker Diego Forlan, 45, will make his professional tennis debut in the Montevideo Challenger Tour in his home country from November 11-17.
Forlan hung up his boots in 2018 with Kitchee in the Hong Kong league. Before that, he was famous from moving from Independiente in the Uruguayan league to Manchester United in 2002, but stayed for only 2 years because he could not perform well. He played 63 games, scored 10 goals before moving to Villarreal in La Liga, Spain and won the European top scorer award in the 2004-2005 season and with Atletico Madrid in the 2008-2009 season. He played for the Uruguayan national team 112 times, scoring 36 goals.
The former Uruguay international has been playing tennis since he was a child and was just as good at it as football, but he turned to football, where his grandfather, father and brother played, and enjoyed great success.
